Transport 21Transport 21 is the largest investment ever in Ireland's transport system. From 2006 to 2015, €34 billion is being invested to deliver a world-class transport system. Under Transport 21 a maximum total of €86 million has been approved for investment in infrastructure at Ireland West Airport Knock; Kerry Airport; Sligo Airport; Donegal Airport; Waterford South East Regional Airport and Galway Airport under the Capital Expenditure Grant Scheme. The scheme retains a priority focus on improving safety and security at the regional airports. A total of €38.7 million has been approved for projects in this category. This will underpin investment in essential infrastructure and equipment upgrades, including better fire fighting equipment, the installation of new Instrument Landing Systems and other navigational aids and the provision of Runway End Safety Areas at a number of airports. In addition a total of €47 million has been approved in principle for developmental projects aimed at catering for projected new business at these airports. This will support investment in a range of projects involving runway, apron, terminal and associated facilities.
