Kilts Ahoy at Waterford Airport!

Visitors to Waterford Airport on Friday 21st September would have been forgiven for thinking that the “Tartan Army” had landed on our shores!  The airport was literally awash in a sea of kilts as the 60 strong Downfield Musical Society from Dundee arrived from a flight in Birmingham to participate in this year’s Waterford International Festival of Light Opera.

The Scots had their vocal chords lubricated early as they were greeted with a typical Irish welcome and lapped up Irish Coffees.

CEO at Waterford Airport Graham Doyle commented “It is superb to see the massive appeal the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera enjoys among our Celtic counterparts. And I am delighted that our airport is thriving on the success of Waterford’s festival of culture”.

This year’s Waterford Festival of Light Opera takes place from Friday 21st – Saturday 30th September in the Theater Royal and literally promises something for everyone with its unique and highly entertaining schedule.  Prepare to be rocked, shocked and even inspired on a religious level by wonderful productions of “We Will Rock You”, “Batboy the Musical” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” amongst others.

Tickets are available from the Box Office of the Theatre Royal to the general public from Monday 10th September. Theatre Royal Box Office Hours are Monday – Friday 10am to 17.00 hrs, Saturday 12 noon to 16.00hrs and the telephone number is 051 874 402.  For further information on the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera, please visit www.waterfordfestival.com
